What is Simply...Challenging?

In brief, Simply...Challenging is my challenge blog. Here, I'm only listing the reading (and 1 writing) challenges I am/have taken part in, as well as book lists for each. My reviews are posted at Goodreads. Yes, it seems weird, but right now, it works for me. ;)

Get Steampunked! Reading Challenge

1 January 2012 - 31 December 2012
Bonnie, Sarah and Adam of Bookish Ardour are hosting the 2nd annual Get Steampunked! Reading Challenge.

The challenge is simple: read steampunk books.  These are: "stories [which are] Victoriana in style, but futuristic as well, with steam powered gadgets and machines made out of the spare parts around you.  Zephyrs, blimps, and steam trains are some of the vehicles you'd see, ladies and gents in Victorian dress.  Or [to] the other extreme, where it's the industrial side of Steampunk, the dirty, almost cyber side of it."  The hosts provide links to various websites and book lists to help you get started.  There are 7 levels to choose from, as well as two mini-challenges, which are optional.

There are 7 (count 'em, 7) levels to choose from:
Geared - read 5 steampunk books
Cogged - read 15 steampunk books
Goggle Mad - read 30 steampunk books
Victorian Lord/Lady - read 50 books steampunk books
Inventor - read 75 steampunk books
Zephyr Pilot - read 76-135 steampunk books
Steampunked! - read 136-200 steampunk books

The 2 extra challenges are:
World - Read books from/set in one specific country.  Depending on which reading level you choose, you may be able to read from multiple countries:
Geared and Cogged - 1 country
Goggle Mad and Victorian Lord/Lady - 2 countries
Inventor and Zephyr Pilot - 3 countries
      Steampunked! - 4 countries
Gender Battle - Read books written only by female or male authors OR read equal amounts of both.

*****

I'm going to commit to reading 50 steampunk books (Victorian Lady), but depending on my time and reading materials, I may move up a level (or two!), and some may be non-fiction.  I'm going to opt out of the extra challenges, however.  A little more than half of my list will be reading Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist, which has just ended and I've only read a few of the first volume's (which I'll be re-reading).

As titles are read, they will be dated, a link to a review posted, and (finally, since I love to do it!) crossed out.
