What is Simply...Challenging?

In brief, Simply...Challenging is my challenge blog. Here, I'm only listing the reading (and 1 writing) challenges I am/have taken part in, as well as book lists for each. My reviews are posted at Goodreads. Yes, it seems weird, but right now, it works for me. ;)

Ireland Reading Challenge

1 January 2012 - 30 November 2012

Carrie of Books and Movies is once again hosting the Ireland Reading Challenge.

The challenge is kinda obvious: read Irish-related books and authors.  There are 4 levels to choose from, as well as a mini-challenge.  Everyone who completes their chosen challenge level and writes at least one review will be entered for the end-of-challenge giveaway (see the mini-challenge below for extra chances).  The prize is a lovely copy of For the Love of Ireland: a Literary Companion For Readers and Travelers edited by Susan Cahill.

The levels:
Shamrock - read 4 Ireland-related books
Luck o' the Irish - read 6 Ireland-related books
Kiss the Blarney Stone - read 8 Ireland-related books
Ceilidh - read 10+ Ireland-related books

The mini-challenge:
Participants can earn extra entries in the giveaway (one per genre) by reading from a variety of books and matching them to the categories listed below.
Contemporary Fiction
Historical Fiction
Science Fiction/Fantasy
Children's Fiction
Non-Fiction - History
Non-Fiction - Memoir or Biography
Non-Fiction - Essays

I'm going to hope for the Luck o' the Irish (6 books) with this challenge!

As titles are read, they will be dated, a link to a review posted, and (finally, since I love to do it!) crossed out.
1.  An Irish Famine: an Illustrated History by Helen Litton
2.  An Irish History of Civilization (volume 2) by Donald Harman Akenson

  1. Thanks! I'm looking forward to finding books for the challenge.
